This book is beautiful, heart-wrenching, funny and kept me on my toes the entire way through!
It is a Contemporary novel about a girl called Madeline who has a disease called ‘Severe Combined Immunodeficiency’, or as most call it SKID. This disease means you are allergic to the world. It causes the immune system to be so weak that it finds it impossible to even fight off mild illnesses, such as the common cold.
Madeline is subjected to her house and is never allowed to leave it. The air has to be filtered and clean. There can be no dust or dirt anywhere. She is imprisoned in her own clean, over-protective house with her mother and nurse.
Madeline is used to the world she lives in – or house – and although she has dreamt about going outside, never really tries or insists on doing so. Until Olly moves in next door.
Yes, this is another cute-boy-next-door-changes-my-life sort of book, but it has twists and turns that you wouldn’t have imagined!
I read this book in a day. It was a fast-paced read and kept me on the edge of my seat with my nose constantly in the book.
I really loved it and grew quite attached to the characters involved. So many of the characters are so warm and lovely, it’s hard not to love them.
I highly recommend!
